The Village

Our house for sale is in Borth-y-Gest, Wales,  one of the most desirable and sought after villages in Gwynedd. Situated just a mile away from the harbour town of Porthmadog, Borth-y-Gest is a small village, built around the shallow bay that makes up the harbour.

It was once renowned for its ship-building yards, even before nearby Porthmadog was developed into a harbour town in the mid nineteenth century by William Maddocks.

Many of the terrace houses here would once have been occupied by sailors, and the larger ones by captains. There is a row of large houses behind the car-park, called the Pilot's Houses, as they were once home to the pilots that would watch out for approaching ships that needed their help to navigate the shallow waters of the estuary.

Borth-y-Gest Village

Borth-y-Gest has retained much of it's quaint charm and village atmosphere. It's at its busiest during summer months, when the small harbour bustles with sailing boats and dinghys. There is a small shop, cafe and bistro restaurant in Borth-y-Gest, but it is especially renowned for its pretty beaches and secret coves, which are all just a short walk from the village.

The Friends of Borth-y-Gest are the local community group whose aim it is to improve, nurture and look after Borth-y-Gest and keep it a special place for many years to come.

You can find out more about the friends and their work here, as well as upcoming events and special village celebrations and meetings.
